MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511006710 A) filed by Punjab Agricultural University on January 27, 2025, for Battery Assisted, Hand-Held, Walk-Behind, Self Propelled E-Weeder For Narrow Crop Rows.

Abstract: The present invention provides for battery assisted, hand-held, walk-behind and self-propelled electric power weeder (e-weeder) for narrow crop designed specifically for narrow-row crops such as wheat, onions, and garlic. The innovative prototype features a 250W hub type BLDC motor for traction and a 1000W BLDC motor driving a vertical weeding blade, powered by a 25Ah lithium-ion battery. This design enhances maneuverability and reduces manual labor, ultimately improving crop yields and promoting sustainable practices. Performance evaluations assess key parameters, including plant damage, weeding efficiency, battery consumption, and weed re-emergence time, while considering variables like soil moisture, forward speed, and rotor speed. This comprehensive analysis demonstrates the weeder's potential to revolutionize agricultural practices, particularly in remote areas, offering a viable solution to modern farming challenges.
