MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641127065 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 25, 2026, for Batteryless, Rain-Event-Triggered Differential Hydraulic And Vibration Monitoring For Railway Drainage Blockage Localization.
Inventors include Srinivasn P; Tamil Selvan P; and Sri Krishna R.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an energy-harvesting railway drainage obstruction monitoring system configured to detect, classify, and localize obstructions in railway drainage channels. The system comprises an energy-harvesting assembly configured to convert hydraulic-head variations or drainage flow events into electrical energy for powering sensing and monitoring operations. A plurality of sensing nodes acquire pressure, flow-related, timing, and vibration parameters associated with drainage events and generate corresponding event-provenance signatures. A processing unit evaluates differential features between sensing nodes, normalizes the acquired parameters according to hydraulic operating conditions, and distinguishes obstruction-related anomalies from variations caused by changing drainage regimes or sensor degradation. A sensor-health qualification mechanism validates the reliability of sensing data and inhibits baseline updates when abnormal or unreliable conditions are detected. The system further correlates measurements from multiple sensing nodes to estimate obstruction location and maintains versioned reference baselines and auditable event records. Accordingly, the invention enables energy-efficient, reliable, and localized monitoring of railway drainage infrastructure with reduced dependence on continuous external power and communication connectivity.
