MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521000051 A) filed by Supriya Suresh Konde; Dr. Amrita M. Singh; and Dr. Brijesh Kumar on January 01, 2025, for Bio-Degradable Plastic Composition And A Method For The Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Dr. Amrita M. Singh; and Dr. Brijesh Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a biodegradable plastic that addresses environmental pollution caused by conventional plastics and the articles made therefrom. The composition comprises a synergistic mixture of starch powder, pectin powder, plasticizer, stabilizing agent, and water as a solvent. The said water-based biodegradable plastic composition is designed to be processed into thin, flexible sheets that exhibit excellent physical properties, such as good tensile strength and resistance to brittleness, while maintaining biodegradability. The composition is biodegradable in the environment, breaking down through microbial activity, making it an ideal alternative to conventional plastics that contribute to environmental pollution. The invention provides a method for producing biodegradable plastic sheets by mixing, heating, molding, and drying the composition, ensuring that the final product is stable, durable, and safe for use.
