MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611059427 A) filed by Gla University, Mathura on May 10, 2026, for Bio-Degradable Smart Packaging System With Integrated Environmental And Freshness Monitoring.
Inventor includes Dr. Bhupesh Chander Semwal.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: BIO-DEGRADABLE SMART PACKAGING SYSTEM WITH INTEGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL AND FRESHNESS MONITORING Abstract The present invention relates to a bio-degradable smart packaging system (11) for monitoring environmental conditions and product freshness during storage and transportation. The system comprises a biodegradable packaging layer (1) and a barrier coating layer (2) configured to regulate moisture and gas permeability. At least one sensor selected from a gas sensor (3), humidity sensor (4), and temperature sensor (5) is provided for detecting environmental parameters and spoilage conditions within the package. In one embodiment, sensed data is processed by a processing unit (12) and transmitted through a communication module (8) to an external device (10) for real-time monitoring and alerts, while a freshness indicator (7) provides visual indication. In another embodiment, a passive color-changing indicator enables freshness detection without electronics. The system is configured as a multi- layer biodegradable structure providing real-time monitoring, improved product safety, extended shelf life, and reduced environmental impact.
