Abstract: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by progressive destruction of the supporting structures of teeth, leading to alveolar bone loss and eventual tooth loss. Dental implants are widely used to restore missing teeth; however, peri-implant inflammation, microbial infection, and insufficient osseointegration remain major causes of implant failure. Surface modification of implants with bioactive coatings has emerged as an effective strategy to improve implant-tissue interactions and long-term clinical outcomes. The present invention describes a bioactive implant coating incorporating oleuropein and horsetail (Equisetum arvense) extract to enhance periodontal and peri-implant tissue regeneration. Oleuropein provides antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, osteogenic, and antimicrobial properties, while horsetail extract, rich in bioavailable silica and flavonoids, promotes collagen synthesis and bone mineralization. The coating is applied to implant surfaces using techniques such as dip coating, sol-gel processing, or electrochemical deposition, enabling sustained release of the bioactive compounds. The proposed coating enhances osteoblast adhesion and differentiation, reduces inflammatory responses, inhibits bacterial colonization, and accelerates osseointegration at the implantbone interface. This natural compound-based implant coating offers a safe, cost-effective, and growth-factor-free approach for improving periodontal regeneration and implant success in patients affected by periodontitis.
