MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611071635 A) filed by Sharda University on June 09, 2026, for Biodegradable Carboxymethyl Cellulose Composition And Process Thereof.
Inventors include Nikita Singh; and Dr. Sujata Pandit Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT Disclosed herein is a biodegradable carboxymethyl cellulose composition and process (100) thereof that comprising cellulose derived from corn cob biomass, carboxymethyl cellulose formed from the cellulose, carboxymethyl substituent groups, and carboxylate functional groups. A process comprises processing corn cob biomass for obtaining a corn cob powder, subjecting the corn cob powder to an alkaline treatment, separating and purifying a cellulose-containing material, subjecting the cellulose-containing material to a bleaching treatment, subjecting the cellulose constituent to a mercerization treatment, contacting the mercerized cellulose constituent with a carboxymethylating agent, neutralizing and purifying the carboxymethyl cellulose constituent, drying the purified carboxymethyl cellulose constituent, forming carboxymethyl substituent groups, forming carboxylate functional groups, and obtaining the biodegradable carboxymethyl cellulose composition. The composition exhibits a degree of substitution ranging from 0.68 to 0.74 and a crystallinity index ranging from 30% to 35%.
