Abstract: The present invention relates to a biodegradable ion-channel modulating nanoribbon system (100) configured for localized delivery of ion-channel modulating agents at peripheral nerve tissue. The system comprises a flexible nanofibrous substrate (102) configured to circumferentially engage a peripheral nerve fascicle, a plurality of therapeutic reservoirs (104) distributed within the substrate (102), and at least one ion-channel modulating agent (106) contained within the therapeutic reservoirs (104). The substrate (102) comprises a composite of a piezoelectric polymer and a biodegradable biopolymer, wherein physiological mechanical strain applied to the substrate alters electrostatic association between the ion-channel modulating agent (106) and the substrate (102), thereby modulating release of the ion-channel modulating agent (106) from the therapeutic reservoirs (104).
