MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611074669 A) filed by Chitkara University on June 16, 2026, for Biodegradable Water Bottle Composed Of A Sugarcane Bagasse-Based Composite And Method Of Manufacturing Thereof.

Abstract: A biodegradable water bottle composed of a sugarcane bagasse-based composite comprises of a structural outer body formed from treated sugarcane bagasse fibers, an inner biodegradable liner comprising PLA polymer matrix, a natural antimicrobial additive comprising neem extract, a natural cross-linking agent comprising a citric acid complex, and a biological catalyst mixture comprising Proteinase K enzymes and Bacillus subtilis endospores. A method for manufacturing a biodegradable water bottle comprises the steps: treating raw sugarcane bagasse with an alkaline solution, washing and drying treated bagasse followed by milling fibres into particulate form, blending treated bagasse to form pre functionalized fiber mixture, compounding the pre-functionalized fiber mixture with PLA polymer matrix and neem extract in a multi-zone extrusion system to obtain a molten composite matrix, molding the composite matrix into a bottle structure by co-molding or injection molding, and cooling the molded bottle to immobilize the biological catalyst mixture within the polymer matrix.
