Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of environmental engineering, specifically to biofilm coatings designed for heavy metal remediation and environmental detoxification. The invention comprises an engineered microbial biofilm that includes non-pathogenic microorganisms or algae, which are genetically or biochemically engineered to enhance interaction with heavy metals. The biofilm incorporates metal-binding elements, such as metal-binding molecules, peptides, or surface transformations, which are configured to bind and sequester heavy metals like lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), arsenic (As), and cadmium (Cd). A self-regenerating mechanism is integrated within the biofilm, utilizing polymer or nutritional storage components to maintain heavy metal absorption capacity over time. This biofilm is applied as a coating on various surfaces, including water pipelines, industrial equipment, soil barriers, and undersea constructions, forming a continuous layer that interacts with contaminated air or water to remove heavy metals.
