Abstract: The present invention discloses a novel nanocomposite electrode material comprising biomass-derived nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) anchored on a copper-nickel double metal oxide (CuO/Ni0) for high-performance supercapacitor applications. The CuO/N i0 double metal oxide is synthesized by a fully green, plant extract-mediated co-precipitation route using copper sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO4-5H20) and nickel sulphate hexahydrate (NiSO4.61-120) at an optimised Cu:Ni molar ratio of 1:3, followed by calcination at 500°C for 4 hours. The NCQDs are independently synthesized by hydrothermal treatment of plant leaf extract with urea at 180°C. The nanocomposite is formed by a secondary hydrothermal anchoring step at 160°C for 4 hours, establishing covalent C-0--Cu and C—O—Ni bonds between NCQD surface groups and the metal oxide. The composite exploits synergistic redox contributions from Cu+/Cu2+ and Ni2+/Ni3 couples, supplemented by pyridinic and pyrrolic nitrogen active sites from the NCQDs, achieving a predicted specific capacitance of 500 F g-' at 1 A g-' in 3 M KOH with greater than 95% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles. The invention provides a sustainable, scalable, non-toxic electrode synthesis route with no chemical reducing agents, suitable for industrial application.
