Abstract: Abstract The present invention discloses a novel nisin-based antimicrobial dental varnish for the prevention of dental biofilm formation. The varnish comprises nisin incorporated into a chitosan-based polymeric matrix along with ethyl cellulose, xylitol, calcium chloride, and peppermint oil to enhance antimicrobial efficacy, adhesion, and patient acceptability. Upon application, the varnish forms a uniform , adherent film on the tooth surface, enabling controlled release of nisin and prolonged inhibition of biofilm-forming oral microorganisms. The invention provides a safe, effective, and sustained approach to oral biofilm control and preventive dental care
