Abstract: A sample sensor (100) has a AIGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) (102) comprising a semiconductor portion comprising an AIGaN/GaN heterojunction, a source (108) a drain (114) and a gate comprising a gate foot (140) with a functionalised gate head detection surface thereon, the gate head being offset from the source and drain, and the gate head with the patterned detection surface spans over the entire device area, wherein the detection surface has a capture reagent provided thereon, wherein the capture reagent binds or otherwise associates with a target antigen or analyte.
