Abstract: The present invention relates to a blockchain-secured firmware over-the-air (FOTA) update system for embedded devices that provides secure, decentralized, and tamper-resistant firmware distribution. The system comprises a firmware development server, cryptographic hash generator, digital signature module, blockchain network, firmware repository, OTA update server, device authentication module, firmware verification engine, secure bootloader, and rollback protection module. Firmware metadata, including cryptographic hash values and digital signatures, is stored as immutable blockchain transactions. Embedded devices independently verify firmware integrity by comparing locally computed hash values with blockchain records before installation. Smart contracts validate firmware authenticity and device compatibility, while rollback protection prevents unauthorized installation of outdated firmware. The invention enhances firmware integrity, authentication, traceability, and resilience against cyberattacks, making it particularly suitable for loT devices, industrial automation, automotive electronics, medical equipment, and other embedded systems requiring secure remote firmware updates.
