Abstract: BOWEL SOUND MONITORING SYSTEM AND METHOD ABSTRACT A bowel sound monitoring system (100) for estimating food intake suitability for a post- operated patient is disclosed. The system (100) comprising a stethoscope diaphragm (102) to acquire bowel sound signals, an Electret Condenser Microphone (ECM) (104) to convert the bowel sound signals into electrical signals, an audio interface jack (106) to transmit the electrical signals, a display interface (110) to display food intake estimation results, and a remote monitoring interface (112) to transmit bowel sound frequency data. The system (100) is configured to acquire gastrointestinal acoustic signals from an abdomen region of a patient, process the acquired signals through digital filtering techniques, determine bowel activity conditions, and generate food intake estimation results suitable for post-operative recovery management. The system (100) provides an automated, real-time, and remotely accessible bowel sound assessment mechanism. Claims: 10, Figures: 12 Figure 1A is selected.
