Abstract: ABSTRACT OPTICAL TRANSMITTER, OPTICAL RECEIVER, AND METHOD FOR GENERATING AND RECEIVING OPTICAL SIGNALS An optical transmitter (200) for a self-coherent optical communication system includes a signal generator (202) configured to generate a baseband signal. The optical transmitter (200) includes an optical modulator (204) configured to modulate an optical carrier with the baseband signal to obtain a modulated optical signal. The optical transmitter (200) includes an optical filter (206) configured to generate a single-sideband optical signal with a residual optical carrier from the modulated optical signal. The residual optical carrier is frequency-aligned with a Brillouin frequency shift of a transmission optical fiber (210) to enable selective amplification of the residual optical carrier through stimulated Brillouin scattering. The optical transmitter (200) includes an output port (208) configured to transmit the single-sideband optical signal with the residual optical carrier into the transmission optical fiber (210).
