MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611061245 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Delhi on May 14, 2026, for Cementitious Composite Material And Process For Preparing The Same Using Treated Textile Wastewater.

Abstract: The disclosed cementitious composite material includes cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and a mixing water component. The mixing water component includes treated textile wastewater at a partial or full replacement of potable water. The treated textile wastewater contains dissolved ionic species including chlorides and sulphates, and entrained microplastic fibers. Further, the cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, and the mixing water component are mixed to prepare a cementitious mixture that undergoes hydration to develop a hardened cementitious matrix. The cementitious composite material is formed such that the microplastic fibers present in the treated textile wastewater are immobilized within hydration products formed in the cementitious matrix. The invention establishes an optimized replacement range of 40–60%, achieving improved mechanical strength while maintaining acceptable durability. This provides a sustainable and performance-based reuse pathway for treated textile wastewater in concrete production while reducing freshwater consumption and minimizing the potential environmental release of microplastic fibers.
