Abstract: The present invention relates to a clamping unit for a cable preparation tool and to a corresponding cable preparation tool. Such cable preparation tools are for instance used for stripping various layers from medium voltage (MV) or high voltage (HV) cables. A clamping unit (100) for a cable preparation tool (200) is operable to encompass a cable (102) having a longitudinal axis (112) and comprises a first support element (108) for axially supporting the cable (102) from a first direction across the longitudinal axis (112), a second support element (110) for axially supporting the cable (102) from a second direction across the longitudinal axis (112), a central unit (116) being interconnected with the first support element (108) and the second support element (110), and a linear slide bearing unit, the slide bearing unit connecting the first support element (108) and the second support element (110) movably to the central unit (116), so that they can be moved in parallel and simultaneously to change their distance with respect to the central unit (116).
