Abstract: ABSTRACT A combined planform wing configuration for fixed-wing Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs) operating at low Reynolds numbers is disclosed. The invention provides two novel hybrid wing designs: Combined Planform 1 (CP-1), which integrates a rectangular root section transitioning into a Zimmerman-style curved tip section with a cambered airfoil profile, and Combined Planform 2 (CP-2), which incorporates a bio-inspired non-planar corrugated surface with alternating ridges and valleys and a scalloped trailing edge. The CP-1 configuration achieves a peak lift coefficient (CL) of 0.8341 at 28° angle of attack and delays stall onset by approximately 2° compared to a conventional Zimmerman planform. The CP-2 configuration traps localized micro-vortices within corrugation valleys, forming a virtual aerodynamic boundary layer that delays global flow separation. Both configurations were optimized using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) integrated with a Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology, fabricated via additive manufacturing, and validated through low-speed wind tunnel testing.
