Abstract: ABSTRACT COMPACT QUAD-PORT WIDEBAND MIMO-ANTENNA SYSTEM WITH SELF-COUPLED DEFECTED GROUND STRUCTURE FOR SUB- 6GHz 5G WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS The present invention discloses a compact quad-port wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system (100) for sub-6 GHz fifth generation wireless communications. The antenna system (100) is fabricated on an FR-4 dielectric substrate (110) with dimensions of 36 x 55 x 1.6 mm cubed and a relative permittivity of 4.4. Four wrench-shaped monopole radiating elements (120a to 120d) are orthogonally arranged on a top copper layer (112) and fed by microstrip feedlines (130). A shared defected ground plane (140) on a bottom copper layer (114) incorporates a self-coupled defected ground structure, grounded branch elements (150), and slit-loaded resonators (160) achieving wideband impedance matching from 2.12 to 4.55 GHz covering LTE Band 40, WLAN, WiMAX, and 5G NR n77/n78/n79 bands. The antenna system (100) achieves port-to-port isolation exceeding 26 dB, radiation efficiency above 85 percent, peak gain of 5.5 dBi, ECC below 0.035, and diversity gain of approximately 10 dB. [
