The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: A compressor coking mitigation system (100) and method (500) for an internal combustion engine (ICE) (102) is disclosed. The system (100) comprises an adaptive thermostat (110) that varies, in response to a control signal (114), a flow rate of a coolant delivered directly to a compressor housing (106) and a bearing housing (108) of a compressor (104). An electronic control unit (ECU) (112) determines, using physical model (122), expected outlet temperature rise rate as function of one or more engine operating conditions, determines actual outlet temperature rise rate based on temporal changes in a measured outlet temperature, and detects a thermal anomaly indicative of oil-induced coking when the actual outlet temperature rise rate exceeds expected outlet temperature rise rate by more than a predetermined margin. The ECU (112) generates the control signal (114) upon the detection, and the flow rate is modulated based on a severity of the thermal anomaly.
