MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611104129 A) filed by Chandigarh University on August 29, 2026, for Computer Vision-Based Automated Agricultural Produce Quality Grading And Sorting System.

Inventors include Amit; Ujwal; Suparv Jangra; and Simran.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a machine learning-based, computer vision-based, and automated agricultural produce sorting and grading system designed to provide accurate, rapid, and consistent quality assessment of agricultural produce. The system comprises a singulation mechanism and conveyor for transporting individual produce items into an enclosed imaging chamber equipped with controlled lighting and a multi-camera imaging arrangement to capture high-resolution images from multiple perspectives. A processing unit executes a trained machine learning model to perform image segmentation and extract multiple quality parameters, including size, shape, colour, texture, and surface defects. Based on predefined grading criteria, the system automatically assigns an appropriate quality grade to each produce item. A synchronized ejector mechanism, such as pneumatic air jets, directs each graded item into its designated collection bin. The invention enables high-speed, reliable, and objective grading while minimizing human intervention and improving sorting accuracy, operational efficiency, and overall productivity.
