Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a system and method for confidence-driven sequential evidence acquisition in automated industrial visual inspection. An initial detector produces an anomaly score and a spatial anomaly map from an inspection image, and a confidence evaluator computes a calibrated decision confidence. While the confidence is insufficient and an action budget remains, a planner controller selects an evidence-acquisition action from a predefined action space comprising region-of-interest zoom localized about a peak of the anomaly map, context expansion, and an alternate photometric representation, re-acquires image data of the item, and re-inspects it, whereupon the confidence is updated and a marginal gain is computed. A termination engine halts acquisition upon satisfaction of a confidence, budget, or marginal-gain condition, and a decision module outputs a final inspection decision with an auditable record of confidence, action, and gain histories. The detector is an interchangeable adapter. Total Number of Words in Abstract: 143
