A graphics processor may render, at a wearable display device, first content based on a first set of characteristics associated with a standalone mode associated with the wearable display device. The graphics processor may obtain an indication that the wearable display device is to be switched to a companion mode associated with the wearable display device. The graphics processor may receive, from a companion device and based on the indication, second rendered content based on a second set of characteristics associated with the companion mode. The graphics processor may process the first rendered content and the second rendered content. The graphics processor may configure a combined display buffer based on the processed first rendered content and the processed second rendered content.
