Abstract: The present invention achieves a control device and a control method with which safety can be improved. An execution unit uses configuration input information provided by a rider of a leaning vehicle as a basis for enabling a control mode in which a positional relationship adjustment operation is executed to adjust the positional relationship between the leaning vehicle and a vehicle ahead to obtain a target positional relationship on the basis of surrounding environment information about the leaning vehicle. When trigger information is acquired, the execution unit causes the control mode to go from a first phase in which the leaning vehicle is stopped to a second phase in which the leaning vehicle is started automatically. While the control mode is enabled, the execution unit acquires tip- over probability information, which is information indicating the probability of the leaning vehicle tipping over in the second phase, and cancels or suspends the control mode if the tip-over probability information indicates that the probability of the leaning vehicle tipping over exceeds a criterion.
