Abstract: Abstract Disclosed is a photocatalytic water treatment apparatus for degradation of antibiotic pollutants in aqueous media. The apparatus comprises a treatment housing defining a reaction chamber, an inlet port for introducing an aqueous solution containing an antibiotic pollutant, and a copper nanoparticle retention structure disposed within the reaction chamber. The copper nanoparticle retention structure retains copper nanoparticles while permitting contact between the copper nanoparticles and the aqueous solution. A light exposure unit directs visible light toward the retained copper nanoparticles, and a circulation unit moves the aqueous solution across the copper nanoparticle retention structure during exposure to visible light. A catalyst-confinement interface restricts displacement of the copper nanoparticles while allowing the aqueous solution and visible light to reach the copper nanoparticles for generation of reactive oxygen species.
