MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521086024 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University on September 10, 2025, for Core-Shell Green Synthesized Carbon Dot For Biomedical Applications.
Inventors include Pankaj Yadav; Dr. Dhiraj Devidas Bhatia; Ankesh Kumar; Khush Hemang Patel; and Dhyanam Krushnachandra Raval.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a green synthesis method for preparing core-shell carbon quantum dots (CQDs) using mango (Mangifera indica) leaves as the carbon-rich core and neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves as the functional shell. The method involves drying, powdering, ethanol extraction, and sequential reflux carbonization at 160 °C to form nanoscale CQDs of 1-100 nm size. The core-shell structure enhances quantum yield, fluorescence stability, and biocompatibility while incorporating bioactive compounds from both plants. The resultant nanoparticles exhibit strong red fluorescence under ultraviolet light, antimicrobial and antifungal activity, and surface functional groups suitable for conjugation with drugs, peptides, and antibodies. Due to their nanoscale size, stability, and bioactivity, the CQDs are applicable in bioimaging, targeted drug delivery, biosensing, cancer therapeutics, and other biomedical uses. This eco-friendly synthesis avoids toxic chemicals, providing a sustainable and low-cost approach for multifunctional nanomaterials. Figure - 2
