MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641118874 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 05, 2026, for Coupled Biodegradation Of Organophosphate Pesticides And Bioelectricity Generation Using Stutzerimonas Stutzeri For Industrial Applications.

Inventors include Anand Prem Rajan; and Pednekar Reshma Raviuday.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT COUPLED BIODEGRADATION OF ORGANOPHOSPHATE PESTICIDES AND BIOELECTRICITY GENERATION USING STUTZERIMONAS STUTZERI FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS An isolated bacterial strain of Stutzerimonas stutzeri having dual functionality is provided. The strain is capable of biodegrading organophosphate pesticides including quinalphos and profenofos through enzymatic activity, and generating electrons through extracellular electron transfer to an extracellular electron acceptor via a biofilm (50). A method (200) for biodegrading organophosphate pesticides comprises providing the isolated bacterial strain, contacting the strain with the pesticide in a culture medium, incubating under conditions enabling enzymatic degradation, and transforming the pesticide into intermediate metabolites. A method (300) for simultaneously biodegrading organophosphate pesticides and generating bioelectricity comprises contacting the strain with the pesticide as a carbon source, biodegrading the pesticide through metabolic activity, and generating electrons through extracellular electron transfer via the biofilm (50).
