Abstract: The present invention relates to a decentralized smart microwave unit designed for onsite sterilization and tracking of biomedical waste in healthcare facilities, integrating advanced microwave-based thermal disinfection with intelligent monitoring and digital compliance systems. Conventionally, biomedical waste has been managed through centralized technologies such as incineration, involving high-temperature combustion using refractory-lined chambers and fuel-based burners, and autoclaving, employing steam sterilization in pressure vessels supported by boiler systems, both requiring extensive infrastructure, manual handling, transportation of hazardous waste, and limited traceability. Earlier microwave-based systems, though introduced as alternatives, were largely centralized, semi-automated, and lacked real-time monitoring and compliance capabilities. In contrast, the present invention provides a compact, modular unit manufactured through precision engineering processes including stainless steel chamber fabrication, integration of magnetron-based microwave generators, installation of sensor arrays, and incorporation of embedded control systems and loT communication modules. The system comprises a microwave sterilization chamber configured for uniform dielectric heating, a plurality of sensors for monitoring parameters such as temperature, humidity, and load, an loT-enabled control module for real-time data acquisition and remote monitoring, a waste identification mechanism using RFID, QR code, or barcode tagging, and a cloud-based platform for data storage, analytics, and automated regulatory reporting.
