Abstract: stations are constrained by their geographical immobility, high capital costs, and an inability to collect localized data at varying altitudes. To address these spatial limitations, this project designs and develops a mobile, cost-effective, and highly responsive three-dimensional atmospheric sensing platform utilizing an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) quadcopter. The engineered payload transitions away from legacy microcontrollers to leverage the dual-core processing capabilities of an ESP32 system-on-chip (SoC) integrated with an optimized metal-oxide semiconductor sensor array. The system is calibrated to monitor two high-impact target pollutants: Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) using specialized MQ135 and MQ7 sensors, respectively. To isolate the sensitive analog microvolt signals from the severe high-frequency electromagnetic interference induced by the drone’s brushless DC propulsion motors, a completely isolated dual-battery power regulation topology is implemented. During flight operations, the sensor array captures atmospheric data, which is processed at the edge by the ESP32 into precise Parts Per Million (PPM) metrics. Utilizing the ESP32’s integrated Wi-Fi radio, these data packets are securely streamed in real-time to the cloud. Instead of traditional web- browser terminals, user visualization is handled via a customized Blynk IoT Mobile Application Interface, providing researchers and emergency first-responders with immediate visual gauges, historical trend graphs, and threshold-based automated buzzer alerts on a smartphone.
