Abstract: Design and Fabrication of Dual Point Cutting Tool Integrated into a Single Tool Post of a Conventional Lathe Machine (Fig. 1) A dual point cutting tool comprising a single rectangular tool shank (1) having a clamping portion mountable in the tool post of a conventional lathe, and a cutting portion formed with a primary cutting tip (2) and a secondary cutting tip (3) separated by a V-shaped relief notch (4). During a plain turning operation, the tips (2, 3) engage the rotating workpiece simultaneously, sharing the material-removal work of the turning cut between them, thereby increasing the material removal rate and reducing the time taken to complete the operation as compared to a conventional single-point tool, without requiring any modification to the existing lathe machine.
