MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641126417 A) filed by Vidyavardhaka College Of Engineering on October 23, 2026, for Design And Fabrication Of Multi-Jaw Adaptive Vice.

Inventors include Dr. Ravi K S; Dr. Khalid Imran; Dr. Amruth E; and Umesha H K.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a design and fabrication of a Multi-Jaw Adaptive Vice. The vice comprises an adaptive jaw mechanism integrating a group of gripping surfaces, including flat jaws, V-grooves for cylindrical stock, and serrated grips for enhanced friction. The system further includes modular inserts configured for interchangeability based on the specific workpiece geometry and a wedge-controlled clamping system adapted to translate vertical force into horizontal clamping pressure. Engineering calculations, force analysis, material selection and manufacturing process data are disclosed herein. The adaptive vice of the present invention provides a clamping force of up to 5000 Newtons. The disclosed system significantly improves operational versatility and effectively eliminates the need for multiple specialized vices in a single workshop. The device is cost-effective, reliable, and is suitable for use in educational institutions, industrial production lines, and general fabrication environments.
