MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641118182 A) filed by Vidyavardhaka College Of Engineering on October 02, 2026, for Design And Fabrication Of Wind Turbine Works On Both Impulsive And Reaction Forces.

Inventors include Dr. Praveenkumara B M; and Prof. Dushyanthkumar G L.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: This invention relates to a hybrid renewable-energy street light with an integrated emergency charging station. It combines a dual-force wind turbine, whose blades work on both impulsive and reaction forces, with a solar panel on a single pole, so that the pole can light an LED source and charge a battery from wind and sunlight without depending on the electricity grid. Conventional street lights draw power from grid electricity that is largely generated by burning fossil fuels, and they must be powered continuously irrespective of usage. Existing non-conventional alternatives are expensive to install and maintain. In the present invention, the impulsive action of the blades gives a high starting torque even in low wind, while the reaction (lift) action keeps the rotor turning efficiently at moderate and high wind speeds, so that energy is extracted over a wide range of wind conditions. The turbine is mounted on an inclined shaft supported by an L-shaped mild-steel bracket on a hollow mild- steel pole. The shaft drives a 12 V DC dynamo through a flywheel and rubber pulley. A 5.3 V solar panel supplements the wind energy. Two printed circuit boards regulate the current and the output voltage, and the energy is stored in a 6 V battery that supplies an LED light source, which is switched on automatically at night with the help of sensors, and an emergency charging socket. A working prototype has been fabricated from galvanized iron and mild steel at a material cost of about Rs. 5,385. Measured output of the turbine was 5.5 V at 0.5 A (2.75 W), corresponding to 0.0275 kWh over 10 hours of continuous rotation. The design is compact, modular and easy to transport, install and maintain, making it a low-cost and sustainable lighting solution for streets, highways, airports, industrial premises and remote areas.
