Inventors include Karan Kumar Sahu; Subham Prusty; Dipti Nisha Dash; Prakash Kumar Palai; and Subhashree Sahoo.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION An aqueous pH-responsive ophthalmic in-situ gelling composition comprising moxifloxacin hydrochloride, Carbopol 940 and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is disclosed. An illustrative composition contains, per 100 mL, 0.50 g moxifloxacin hydrochloride, 0.50 g Carbopol 940 and 0.30 g hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, with sodium chloride and water, and has a pH of about 5.5–6.0 before administration. Following contact with simulated tear fluid at pH 7.4, the composition undergoes rapid gel formation. An optimized experimental batch exhibited immediate firm gelation, retention of the resulting gel for more than six hours under the described test, 99.64 ± 0.30% drug content and cumulative in-vitro release of 88.5 ± 2.4% after twelve hours. A process involving sequential polymer dispersion, hydration, drug incorporation and pH adjustment is also disclosed.
