Abstract: The present invention relates to a biodegradable, edible, and eco-friendly polymer film for food packaging and cling wrap applications. The film comprises konjac glucomannan as a primary filmforming polymer in combination with a synergistic blend of agar, cellulose, gelatin, and starch, plasticized with glycerol to enhance flexibility and adhesion properties. The optimized composition enables the formation of a uniform, flexible, and mechanically robust film with improved moisture resistance. The film is prepared by a solvent-casting process involving dispersion of konjac glucomannan in a heated aqueous medium, followed by sequential incorporation of agar and starch under controlled temperature conditions. Cellulose is incorporated as a reinforcing agent through uniform dispersion, followed by the addition of gelatin to impart elasticity. Glycerol is subsequently added as a plasticizer to obtain a homogeneous film-forming solution, which is cast and dried under controlled conditions to yield a thin film suitable for packaging applications. The resulting film exhibits desirable physical and mechanical properties, including transparency in the range of approximately 85—88%, tensile strength of about 30-36 MPa, and elongation at break of 110-130%, along with good folding endurance and structural integrity. The film demonstrates moderate cling properties and improved moisture resistance compared to conventional konjac-based films. The invention provides a sustainable, non-toxic, and compostable alternative to petroleum-based plastic cling wraps, offering enhanced mechanical durability while addressing environmental concerns associated with plastic waste.
