In an aspect, a capabilities server receives, from a first user equipment (UE), one or more capability messages indicating at least a first set of capabilities the first UE supports for one or more network-based sessions, transmits, to the first UE, a response message including at least a first capabilities indicator to use for subsequent network-based sessions, wherein the first capabilities indicator identifies the first set of capabilities, and wherein the first capabilities indicator is common to all UEs of the same device class as the UE that have the first set of capabilities, configures a second UE with one or more parameters for a network-based session, wherein the network based session, the one or more parameters for the network-based session, or both are determined for the second UE based at least in part on the first set of capabilities.
