Abstract: A diesel fuel lift pump assembly (100) includes a brushed DC motor having a permanent magnet (208) and an armature assembly (500), and a roller pump mechanism (306) coupled to the armature assembly (500) and configured to transfer diesel fuel from an inlet to an outlet. The armature assembly (500) includes a central shaft (502), a laminated core (508) disposed around the central shaft (502), a plurality of windings (510) disposed on the laminated core (508), and a plurality of reinforcing ribs (504) extending radially from the central shaft (502) toward the laminated core (508). The reinforcing ribs (504) are formed of a wrought steel having a hardness in a range of 150 HV to 300 HV and a carbon content of 0.05% to 0.25% by weight. The reinforcing ribs (504) have a ferrite-pearlite microstructure and include fillet radii (506) at junction regions between the reinforcing ribs (504) and the central shaft (502). The reinforcing ribs (504) transmit torque from the armature assembly (500) to the roller pump mechanism (306). (FIG. 5)
