The imaging device (104) generates image data (120) representing the subject (114) and the diagnostic device (102), and the proximity sensor (110) generates proximity data (128) indicative of a device-to-body gap. The processors (106) determine anatomical key points, generate a placement marker (122) corresponding to a target auscultation region (124), determine a position of the diagnostic device (102), and enable acquisition and/or transmission of the physiological data (130) when the diagnostic device (102) is within a clinically acceptable placement zone (126) and contacts a body surface (116).
