Abstract: TITLE: DIGITAL SHIN GONIOMETER FOR MEASUREMENT OF TIBIAL ROTATIONS APPLICANT: SRI RAMACHANDRA INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a digital shin goniometer system for accurate measurement of tibial rotation eliminating ankle movement. The system comprises of custom-made ankle-foot orthosis to stabilize ankle and foot in a neutral position and a goniometer adapted to be positioned on shin and configured to measure tibial rotation. The present invention is characterized in the goniometer which comprises of power supply unit, processing unit and display unit encased in a custom acrylic housing. The power supply unit is integrated to the processing unit and comprises of a battery, a voltage booster circuit, a battery charging module and a ON/OFF switch for supplying power to the goniometer. The processing unit comprises of Arduino Nano microcontroller integrated to ADXL345 triaxial accelerometer sensor, transmitting unit and a buzzer. The ADXL345 triaxial accelerometer as a primary sensor captures dynamic movements and transmits to the Arduino Nano microcontroller. The Arduino Nano microcontroller processes the raw accelerometer data to calculate the angle of ankle rotation applying trigonometric functions to the acceleration values along relevant axes to determine the angular displacement. The Arduino Nano microcontroller activates the buzzer when the battery voltage drops below a predefined threshold thereby alerting the user of a low battery condition and prompting them to recharge. The transmitting unit interfaced with the Arduino Nano microcontroller and transmits calculated ankle rotation angle to a registered mobile application. The display unit is integrated to the Arduino Nano microcontroller and displays calculated ankle rotation angle.
