MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202647072169 A) filed by Qualcomm Incorporated on June 10, 2026, for Distance Estimation For Multiple Devices On A Transmission Line Using Controllable Shorts.

Inventors include Hiscock, Paul Dominic; and Feldman, Ilia.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are provided for distance estimation. A first pulse signal injected into a first end of a transmission line can reflect off a first short caused across the transmission line by a first device. A peak voltage of a first difference signal corresponding to the reflection can be measured. A second pulse signal injected into the transmission line by the first device can reflect off a second short caused across the transmission line by a second device farther from the first end than the first device. A peak voltage of a second difference signal corresponding to the reflection of the second pulse signal can be measured. The location of the first device along the transmission line can be determined based on a first distance estimate using the peak voltage of the first difference signal and a second distance estimate using the peak voltage of the second difference signal.
