Inventors include Dr. Swaroop R. Lahoti; Mr. Chetan M. Rajote; and Dr. Khushi S. Lahoti.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a dual-response ThermoAlert smart pharmaceutical packaging system for real-time drug storage temperature monitoring. The system comprises a reversible thermochromic packaging film prepared from polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol 400, and microencapsulated leuco-dye- based thermochromic pigment exhibiting colour change from red to pale pink at approximately 28 °C for real-time visual monitoring; and an irreversible temperature- indicating label incorporating a compartmentalised lipid matrix of cocoa butter and coconut oil at 50:50 ratio with 2 percent thermochromic pigment, coated with Eudragit RL 100, providing an immediate reversible colour change from green to yellow upon removal from cold storage and permanent irreversible pigment migration within approximately 10 minutes upon prolonged temperature breach. The irreversible formulation was optimised using a 32 full factorial design achieving a melting temperature of 30 °C and migration time of 10.6 minutes. The system employs low-cost pharmaceutical-grade materials with excellent stability.
