MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411103974 A) filed by Lovely Professional University on December 28, 2024, for Dual Sglt-1/Sglt-2 Inhibitors For Type-2 Diabetes Management.
Inventor includes Amit Mittal.
The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of pharmacology, specifically to the development of dual SGLT-1/SGLT-2 inhibitors for the management of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus. The invention comprises a dual inhibitor characterized by a bicyclic heteroaromatic core with a fused thiadiazole-oxadiazole scaffold, which interacts with a non-glucoside scaffold to enhance stability against intestinal enzyme degradation. The inhibitor incorporates bioisosteric replacements, such as triazole or isoxazole rings, to optimize electronic properties for binding affinity to both SGLT-1 and SGLT-2 transporters. Hydrophilic moieties are introduced to improve the pharmacokinetic profile, while electron-withdrawing substituents, including fluorine or trifluoromethyl groups, are configured to strengthen interactions with SGLT-1. Glycosyl mimic side chains are designed to emulate natural substrates, ensuring high oral bioavailability and a sustained half-life. The invention includes a method to manage Type-2 Diabetes by using a dual inhibitor to reduce renal glucose reabsorption and postprandial glucose absorption
