MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611060863 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Kanpur on May 13, 2026, for Dynamic Thiol-Epoxy Resin Composition And Methods Thereof.
Inventors include Vatsalya Gupta; and Ramkrishna Sarkar.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT DYNAMIC THIOL-EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITION AND METHODS THEREOF The present invention relates to a dynamic thiol-epoxy resin composition and methods thereof. The present invention discloses a dynamic epoxy resin network prepared using a thiol-functionalized aromatic hardener comprising (2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3,5-triyl)trimethanethiol (TMB-TMT), at least one bis-epoxide compound, and a catalyst for thiol-epoxy click polymerization. The resulting crosslinked epoxy network comprises dynamic benzyl thioether linkages capable of transthioetherification-mediated bond exchange, thereby enabling recyclability, reprocessability, and controlled degradability. The epoxy networks exhibit high thermal stability, enhanced thermomechanical properties, superior creep resistance, reversible shape-memory behavior, and strong adhesive performance toward metallic substrates. The present invention further discloses methods for synthesis of the thiol-functionalized hardener and preparation of the dynamic epoxy networks under mild reaction conditions with high yields, thereby providing an industrially scalable and sustainable alternative to conventional non-recyclable epoxy thermosets.
