Abstract: EARTHQUAKE SIMULATING APPARATUS FOR SEISMIC AND DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS The present invention relates to an earthquake simulating apparatus (100) for generating controlled uniaxial ground motion for evaluating a seismic response of a structural specimen. The earthquake simulating apparatus (100) comprises a supporting frame (110), a movable platform (107) movably supported on the supporting frame (110), an electrical drive system comprising a direct current (DC) motor (101) and a controller (111), and a motion transmission assembly operatively coupled between the electrical drive system and the movable platform (107). The motion transmission assembly converts rotary output generated by the electrical drive system into reciprocating linear motion of the movable platform (107) to generate controlled uniaxial earthquake excitation. The controller (111) regulates an operating speed of the DC motor (101) to adjust an excitation frequency of the movable platform (107), while the motion transmission assembly independently adjusts an excitation amplitude of the movable platform (107), thereby enabling simulation of different earthquake loading conditions for repeatable laboratory-scale seismic evaluation of structural specimens.
