MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641126777 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology, Ramapuram Campus; and Easwari Engineering College on October 24, 2026, for Eco-Friendly Starch-Based Hydrogel Loaded With Green-Synthesized Nanoparticles For Enhanced Wound Healing Applications.

Inventors include Dr. Archana H; Shyam T; Pranav Bs; and Shruthi R.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The proposed invention relates to the development of a starch-based hydrogel that serves as a natural, eco-friendly, non-cytotoxic, and sustainable alternative to synthetic chemical-based wound dressings with cytotoxic effects. The poly-herbal formulation involves the synergistic activity of the leaves and flowers of Cassia fistula and the leaves of Manilkara zapota, for their anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and anti-diabetic properties. The green synthesis of silver nanoparticles avoids the use of toxic chemicals, enhancing biocompatibility and exhibiting broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi and drug-resistant strains. The drug-infused hydrogel is sustainable, biocompatible, biodegradable, cost-effective and non-cytotoxic. It has the ability to promote faster and efficient wound healing by the provision of a moist wound healing environment and by ensuring localized drug delivery at the wound site, lessening the risk of a microbial infection and further complications like allergies, thus overcoming patient discomfort. It comprises all the medicinal and antibiotic properties required for improved tissue regeneration, accelerated wound healing and effective wound closure. Thus, the hydrogel development with advanced nanoparticle technique, is formulated to create a reliable, accessible, eco-friendly and healthier environment to cure various health issues.
