Abstract: The present invention relates to an edge-computing based conversational language tutoring system. The system comprises a low-latency audio input subsystem including noise suppression, automatic gain control and voice activity detection; a quantized streaming automatic speech recognition engine configured to generate text hypotheses; a natural language understanding module; a dialog manager governed by pedagogical policies; a pronunciation and prosody analysis engine configured to perform phoneme-level alignment, fluency assessment and acoustic parameter evaluation; a grammar and lexical feedback engine; and a low-latency on-device text-to- speech module configured to generate corrective recasts and instructional prompts. The system further comprises a local encrypted learner data store configured to maintain mastery maps, session records and user profiles, and an optional delta-based, resumable synchronization module for intermittent connectivity environments. Model compression, streaming inference and power-aware scheduling enable execution on low-resource hardware. The system is deployable at various levels for providing adaptive spoken-language instruction in bandwidth-constrained environments.
