MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124749 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 19, 2026, for Edge-Ai Disease-Aware Irrigation Controller With Counterfactual Disease-Risk Simulation For Row Crops.

Inventors include Roy S; Shaik Roohi Naaz; and Jayakumaran U.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an edge-AIirrigation controller for row crops that decides each irrigation by its predicted effect on both water stress and disease risk. A solar-powered field node (110) with a microcontroller fuses soil, microclimate, leaf-wetness and canopy-image signals, and maintains a crop state including a disease- favourability state built from leaf-wetness, humidity, temperature, soil-moisture and irrigation history. A shared temporal encoder outputs a water-stress state and a disease-risk index. For each candidate irrigation action and start time, the node predicts the future water state and disease risk, and selects the action minimising a joint objective over water deficit, disease risk, energy and irrigation stress within moisture, volume and battery constraints. It then drives the irrigation valve (124). All inference and optimisation run on the node without cloud connectivity.
