Abstract: An effects-based distributed system (100) and method (500) are disclosed for deriving information regarding counter-drone defense systems (140) without direct sensing or analysis of defensive emissions. A plurality of probe unmanned aerial vehicles (120), forming a distributed drone sensor fabric (130), are deployed within an operational area (110) and configured to present perceived aerial threats and to experience observable effects (150) resulting from defensive reactive responses. One or more follower unmanned aerial vehicles (160,300), positioned outside primary engagement zones, observe behavior, degradation, loss, or survival (154) of the probe unmanned aerial vehicles over space and time and communicate derived information via communication links (170) to a base station or coordination element (180). A correlation and inference module (162, 360) correlates the observed effects across the distributed drone sensor fabric (130) to infer at least one of the existence, location, engagement characteristics, or operational behavior of the counter-drone defense systems (140).
