MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641096983 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Tiruchirappalli on August 11, 2026, for Electrospun Membrane Of Dual-Mode Thiourea Functionalized Core-Shell Fibers For Selective Recovery Of Precious Metal Ions.
Inventors include Baskaran, Gowthaman; and Vaduganathan, Karthik.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a functionalized electrospun membrane comprising core-shell fibers of thiourea functionalized recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), for selectively recovering precious metal ions from aqueous medium. The dual-mode functionalization, in which thiourea is incorporated both in the core via blending and on the shell via chemical grafting, provides greater metal-binding capacity and stability than single-mode functionalization.
