MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641056574 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education on May 04, 2026, for Electrospun Polyacrylonitrile/Tempo Composite Nanofiber Electrode Material For Supercapacitor Applications And Methods Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Nakul Desai; Sudhakar Y N; and Vinod T. P..

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to electrospun composite nanofiber electrode materials comprising polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) for supercapacitor applications. The composite is prepared by dissolving PAN in a solvent, incorporating TEMPO, and electrospinning the resulting solution to form a nanofibrous network. The material exhibits a dual charge storage mechanism involving electric double-layer capacitance and pseudocapacitance arising from TEMPO redox activity. The electrode demonstrates improved electrochemical performance, including enhanced specific capacitance, energy density, and power density, along with good cycling stability. The invention further provides a supercapacitor device incorporating the composite electrode material. The electrospun architecture enables high surface area, improved ion transport, and structural stability, making the material suitable for high-performance energy storage applications.
