MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641093806 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on August 03, 2026, for Electrospun Polyvinyl Alcohol-Gelatin Nanofibrous Coating Incorporating Vancomycin And Quercetin For Titanium Implants.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a multifunctional bioactive coating for titanium implants comprising an electrospun nanofibrous matrix of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and gelatin loaded with vancomycin and quercetin. The coating is fabricated on Ti-6A1-4V titanium substrates using an electrospinning process under optimized conditions. The nanofibrous architecture mimics the extracellular matrix and serves as a localized drug delivery system. The incorporated vancomycin provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against implant-associated pathogens, while Quentin imparts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and osteogenic properties. The coating demonstrates uniform fiber morphology, controlled dual-drug release for up to 168 hours, excellent hemocompatibility, significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coil, enhanced free-radical scavenging activity, and controlled biodegradation. The invention provides a novel implant surface capable of simultaneously reducing pen-implant infections, mitigating oxidative stress, and promoting favorable biological responses, thereby improving osseointegration and long-term implant success.
